The Nose Knew (Then).
This is a copy of a poem I first wrote in 2008. My then dorm room was a mash-up of misunderstood anxiety, homesickness and underpraised aromas.
I made this list for a shared laugh among friends who seemed to be adjusting rather well to life out-of-the-nest, unlike myself. I hope this decade-old poem makes you laugh, and contemplate your early days away from your first home. I also hope you enjoy the stroll down memory lane, as we jaunt back to the root of my writing (and nose hairs).
Frequent smells I have encountered since having moved:
(i love the rain the most)
sweaty gym socks
potent, potent marijuana
moldy chicken soup
vanilla laundry sheets
the first floor’s sizzling onion stir fry
victoria secret's lovespell
regurgitated red wine
mango febreeze
the inside of an spca
danny's cologne
poop
ocean-water and seaweed
industry
morning bacon
the smell of hot shower mixed with fragrant shampoo
a cross between a freshly mowed soccer field and wet dog
forgotten, abandoned + old, old beer
falling rain on concrete
shea body butter
espresso beans
chegg nog
book spines
